  • The New Trends that will be shaping the Future of Engineering

Technology today is constantly shifting and creating ripples in our society and pushing the traditional boundaries relentlessly. Everything, right from a startup business to educational institutions and even NGOs have put to good use the technology that is available to us. With each passing day, our reliance on technology is rising and the pursuit of perfection becomes never-ending. The evolution of technology in both the digital and the physical world has affected not only our lifestyle but also other fields of study in the science and technology community.

Every day new trends are being created along with the new concepts that take shape from the growing expertise. Among them, the most influential is the Digital and Virtual Technology. It has had a great effect on innovations in engineering and is one of the most influential aspects that create and explore new trends and breakthroughs in such a field. Engineering and trends in technology go hand in hand. Be it any branch of engineering, technology has its imprints everywhere. You all have witnessed how the advancing technology has endowed us with the tools and technologies that have eased out the way work used to get done by the engineers before. Technology has enabled more accuracy in the work of engineers. Therefore, we, at the Indore Institute of Science and Technology (IIST), in this article, have attempted to explore how such trends and changes will be impacting the future of engineering so that the aspiring engineers get a fair idea to swiftly adapt to the trends. A few such trends that continue to affect the field of engineering and play a big role in shaping its future have been described as follows:

    Continued Digitization of the Industry

The engineering industry is already on the path of adopting many of the digital technologies and that includes mobile devices, digital sensors, augmented reality, BIM, drones, virtual reality, autonomous equipment, and many more. The technical innovations assist the companies in improving their processes and fundamentally transforming how the projects and buildings come to life. The construction industry is rapidly shifting towards cloud-based platforms.

    Cloud Computing

In future, a majority of the companies will be using or have some kind of cloud computing. The future of cloud computing will straddle both the public and private clouds and add new challenges to the role of information technology. The increasing use of cloud computing will ensure that a high premium is put on the skill set. Thus, the ones comfortable with API (application programming interface) and DevOps (unifying software development and software operation) will have a high chance of succeeding in such an environment.

    Immersive and VR Architecture

An artificial world that you can observe, reach out, walk through for touching objects and seeing everything around you for responding in real time has been made a possibility in today’s world. This is an immersive virtual reality and the spaces are being created utilizing a combination of wireless tracking technology, computer graphics, HD projectors, headsets, polarized glasses, and more. The aim of all these technologies is to come together and create interactive real-life experiences.

    Introduction of Big Data

Big data, by and large, is still an unexplored concept and its potential will hopefully be explored further in the times to come. In the near future, big data will find its use and applications for planning and creation of smart cities. This is because as the population grows and the resources become scarcer, the efficient utilization of the limited goods will become important. Building up and integrating big data in creating a sustainable future of the cities is becoming a reality in the world of today and going by the opinion of the experts, more innovations in the arena are yet to come.

    3D Printing Technology

3D printing technology is one of the pioneers of innovation in the modern century with everything from organs to apparels being designed using it. The key advantage of 3D printing lies in the fact that it lets you produce complex and functional shapes utilizing less material than the traditional manufacturing processes. The only drawback at present is that the cost involved is still comparatively high, though hopefully, the costs will come down with more improvements coming along the way.

We, at the Indore Institute of Science and Technology, recognized as the best private engineering colleges in MP, aim to prepare our students in such a way that they can partake and lead all of such innovations and more. With that goal in mind, we have prepared a highly advanced curriculum supported by a world-class infrastructure to ensure that our students get the opportunity to blossom to their full potential by honing their skill set and improving their knowledge. The proof of the success of our processes lies in the success of our alumni as most of them are presently a part of such modernizations in various national and multinational companies around the world. Our doorsteps are where they get the wings to fly so that all of their dreams of soaring high become a reality in the days to come.
